I know where you can get a ‘71 for much cheaper. Hell, on certain days the owner would pay you to get it out of his sight.

It's in Cedar Creek. Dangerously close, eh?

Oh, the price tag is keeping me quite safe from temptation.
It does come with a spare key though, so maybe it’s reasonable.

I know, they can be ridiculously troublesome, being Malaise-era GMs. Still tho...

I mean, knowing that it’s a GM from their worst era, it’s probably a much bigger price tag in the long run than the dealer is charging! But at 70k miles, it really isn’t a bad price. Just more than I can swing.

It looks so damn good staring at me from the dealer lot.

They’re really not bad, being pretty simple and straightforward mechanically, but most have been hacked on by previous owners and the older ones, like mine, are almost 50 years old so there are a lot of “fixes” that need fixed.

Part of me really really wants a project car someday, but the rest of me enjoys things like eating and not worrying about a 50-year-old part failing.

Mine not be a good example since it was pulled out of a field and was in pretty rough shape. Of course it only cost $800. To buy. The total cost has been just a touch more. Buying a better example would have been smarter, but where’s the challenge in that?

The nostalgia tax is strong. It’s from an era when I first started to think about cars. So yeah, people like me and you but with more disposable income are the ones driving the prices up. And power to them for achieving a childhood fantasy. Me, I have tuition to save for.

By the time my 1979 Pontiac Trans Am had 70,000 miles on it, It was well into it’s second transmission and getting ready for its third. Amazing that with such pitiful horsepower numbers, you would think the transmissions would last longer. It was torquey, but not that THAT strong an engine. Sold it for $800 in the 90s.

Pep Boys steering wheel cover makes this a pass...anyone willing to put that shit in that car when it’s as clean as it is suggests there are other unforgivable offenses all over this car.
